Asturias International Photojournalism Conference 2025

Three days of photojournalism, film, exhibitions, education, human rights and community events in Gijón / Xixón.

The 2025 edition of the Asturias International Photojournalism Festival took place in Gijón / Xixón from 1 to 3 October 2025.

Over the course of three days, the programme brought together in-person and virtual activities, conferences, screenings, workshops, exhibitions, talks and educational sessions aimed at promoting critical thinking, raising awareness and fostering social engagement.

The Festival featured leading figures from the worlds of cinema, journalism, photojournalism and social activism, including Fernando León de Aranoa, Lola Salvador, Óscar Camps, Alfonso Bauluz, Manu Brabo, Patricia Simón and Ariadna Creus, amongst others.

Highlights.

Exhibitions

The city hosted a number of photography exhibitions in cultural and urban venues, introducing the public to works exploring themes such as conflict, migration, human rights, identity, territory and visual memory.

Films and discussions.

The programme included film screenings and discussions with filmmakers and journalists on global justice, cooperation, migration, accurate information and human dignity.

Educational events

Schools in Gijón and Langreo took part in activities involving pupils and teachers, incorporating film, photojournalism and human rights as learning tools.

Round-table discussions and debates

Professionals from the fields of journalism, photography and international aid discussed the role of imagery in the coverage of conflicts and humanitarian crises, as well as the ethical challenges facing contemporary journalism.

Winners of the 2025 Humanist Photography Awards.

The event hosted the presentation ceremony for the 2025 Humanist Photography Award, which was presented to Diego Ibarra Sánchez at a ceremony attended by more than 130 people.
