On 25 June at 7.00 pm, we will be presenting the new phase of the Asturias International Photojournalism Conference in Madrid – a cultural, educational and professional project which, since 2006, has been focusing on the image, visual journalism and a humanistic perspective.
The event will take place at Calle Santa Cruz de Marcenado, 2 (28015 Madrid) and will be an opportunity to share the objectives, areas of focus and challenges of a project which, from its base in Asturias, promotes spaces for reflection, training and dialogue on documentary photography, human rights, memory, social justice and press freedom.
With a new phase beginning in 2025, the Encuentro reaffirms its commitment to photojournalism and documentary photography as tools for understanding the world, fostering critical thinking and bringing to light realities that all too often remain invisible.
Although our annual gathering is the most visible aspect of this initiative, the project remains active throughout the year. Through workshops, meetings, exhibitions and educational activities held in classrooms, cultural venues and social organisations, we work to ensure that images become memory, conversation and critical awareness.
The presentation in Madrid also aims to provide a forum for professionals from the fields of photography, journalism, culture and development cooperation, as well as anyone interested in the transformative power of the image and the role of photojournalism in contemporary society.
